Family portraits are something you and your family will cherish for years to come! They should be a fun experience for everyone! Here are a few tips to read through before your family session.
Plan your outfits. Outfits should be picked out about a week prior to your session. That gives you time to change anything if you do not like it or if a child does not feel comfortable in it, you can deal with that prior to the session. If you need any help, advice, or an opinion on the outfits you have chosen, send me a message or a picture and I will be glad to help out!
Prepare the children. Yes, as a mother of 3 children, I know how stressful family photos can be for the parent(s). Talk about the photo shoot before hand, refer to the photographer as one of your friends! Make sure to schedule the session after their scheduled naps, lunch, breakfast, or snack times. Children are usually the most happy with a full belly and a recharged battery! Make sure to always bring snacks and drinks, just in case though (and baby wipes to clean up, just in case!)! Bring one of their favorite toys, a stuffed animal, or their blankie. Whatever makes them happy!
Arrive Early. Children easily fall asleep on car rides. Arrive a little bit early to allow them to wake up a little bit before getting their photos taken. Walk them around the area and get them more comfortable with their surroundings.
Candids! Sometimes children and families are best captured in the moment. Do not pressure them to always look at the camera, sometimes this stresses you out and we do not want that!
